In the current light of the Rio Olympics 2016, we would like to give a shout out to a few female athletes who have made a great impact this year. Let’s celebrate their achievements with a little shout out.
We celebrate the youngest competitor in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics game. At age 13, she represented Nepal for Swimming. Although she ranked 31, we applaud her courage and strength. She has previous won one silver and three bronze medals at the 2016 South Asian Games.
Katinka Hosszú is a three-time Olympic champion for swimming. She recently won her first world medal in the 400 meter individual medley whilst re-creating a new world record. She fought through her ‘doping’ rumours and she also survived an awkward instance when an announcer credited her coach (also her husband) for her new world record.
Ibtihaj Muhammad is the first Muslim-American women to wear a hijab while competing in the Olympics for United States. She obtained a degree from Duke University, in International Relations & African-American studies. She joined the prestigious Peter Westbrook Foundation, in late 2002. This foundation utilises fencing as a channel to develop life skills in young people from undeserved communities.
Not just Zac Efron, but the entire country has been thriving over the beautiful Simone Biles. She is the most celebrated female gymnast, at age 19, as she holds the World Championships record for the most gold medals (10) won by a female gymnast. She even has a signature move named after her – “The Biles”.
She is celebrated as one of oldest athlete in the history of Olympics. Aged 41, she has competed in six Olympics (starting in 1992). She has a 25-year career competing internationally for the various countries – Soviet Union, Unified Team, Germany and now Uzbekistan.
While we celebrate these gorgeous and fabulous women. We would also like to give a short celebratory shout out to Joseph Schooling for winning Singapore’s first gold medal-ever.

Apekshya is an eternal panda. She loves to eat, sleep and then eat some more. In her spare time, she writes, then sleeps again. She also constantly dreams about being a superstar, and then eats (because she is not). If you understand her pain, she is open to receiving chocolates on a daily basis.
