6 Tips That Can Get You Disciplined with Keeping Fit

Ever felt so pumped up with the idea of fitness, follow through a couple of routines and then realise that distractions caught up and the last time you worked out was actually a few weeks back? We’ve all been there.

The workouts you see on youtube vids aren’t the most challenging part; the most challenging bit is to stay consistent and focused. Here are some tips that can help you get into the routine and STAY in it.

fitness goals

1. Set out measurable goals and objectives

“I just want to keep fit.” Yes, we all do, but we fail oh so often. Give it a measurable objective. Whether it’s to maintain or improve your stamina, to lose weight or to maintain toned abs, you need to be working towards something. The more specific the better. After all, what gets measured gets done.

2. Gather up some friends

Peers are always the greatest motivators. Thats why they call it “peer pressure”. Get together with some friends to work out your fitness goals and help each other through it. It also helps you view workout sessions as time to catch up with friends.

3. Find an exercise program that you enjoy

Avoid “going through the motion” just to get things done. Once you develop a resentment for the workout, it’s going to take a lot of hard work to get back into the routine. There are many ways to skin a cat (not that anyone would want to) just like there are tonnes of activities that can help you achieve your goals. If you prefer going for classes, here is one app that you can check out:, they have aggregated a huge variety of various fitness classes and you can be sure to find something you like! 4. Occasionally shake things up!

Everyone hates routines. Mix in some fun and out-of the blue exercises into your regime to break up the monotony. Try different exercises like Yoga, Pilates, Pole dancing or pick a different (perhaps more scenic) spot to do your marathon runs.

5. Couple your exercise program with a trigger (and an app)

It could be setting your exercises on fixed days in a week, a fixed timing, a fixed group of friends, an exercise tracking app or all of the above. Triggers get you into the habit, and if you do this consistently for a month, you’ll be hooked in no time! Use the app to help track your progress so you can go back to your objectives and see if they have been met.

There are some useful apps out there:

Nike+Training Club App – with 0ver 100 workouts, distance tracking features, connecting with friends etc.

Sworkit App – a comprehensive list of exercises for different parts of the body. Simply watch and do.

6. Get ample sleep

Last but not least. Sleep is your body’s best friend. Nothing functions well without a good night’s rest, same goes for exercising. Don’t let sleep deprivation and being ‘tired’ give you the excuse to not work out. Keep a healthy sleep pattern and you’ll find yourself refreshed every morning, ready to hit the gym anytime!
